Healthy Lifestyles
The Healthy Lifestyles Scheme delivers physical activity across the district in partnership with health professionals and instructors specially qualified to work with certain conditions. Our aim is to support people to be more active in a safe way to benefit both their physical and mental health.
GP Referral
This initiative involves you being referred to a highly qualified Exercise Referral Instructor, who will provide a consultation to talk through your health condition(s) and what types of activities you like to do.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation is a community-based rehabilitation service that continues on from Phase III.
A Cardiac Rehabilitation Instructor who has been trained by BACPR delivers the programme on behalf of Stroud District Council.
Respiratory Rehabilitation
Respiratory Rehab are community based rehabilitation classes. The classes consist of a low intensity workout in a safe and friendly environment and is specifically designed to help individuals reduce symptoms and improve functional independence.
Better Balance Exercise Classes
These classes are designed for those who have had a fall or are concerned about their balance.
Following a referral from your GP, Practice Nurse or Physiotherapist, the scheme promotes balance and confidence while helping to prevent falls and improve stamina, increase strength, mobility and flexibility, lower the risk of osteoporosis, and improve blood pressure and cholesterol.
You can also refer yourself to join the classes.

Tuesday
12.45am – 1.45pm at Stinchcombe Village Hall
Wednesday
11.15am – 12.15pm & 12.30pm – 1.30pm at Maypole Village Hall, Stroud
Thursday
11.30am – 12.30pm at Mortimore Rooms, Nailsworth
2.45pm – 3.45pm at Chalford Sport & Social Club
Classes cost: £3.70 per week.
Living With and Beyond Cancer Exercise Classes
Living with & Beyond Cancer exercise classes are designed to facilitate levels of confidence and fitness to enable you to commence or recommence exercise or activities of your choice. The classes have been developed to be enjoyable and sociable, but also to ensure you get the full benefit of a physical workout.
Health Walks
Our Volunteer Walk Leaders guide a variety of FREE short walks across the district, designed to improve your health in a safe, relaxed and sociable environment. The walks range from 30 minutes to 60 minutes.
Gentle/Dementia Walks
Gentle walks for those living with long term conditions like dementia and their cares or loved ones to meet, have a coffee and enjoy nature. Some walks are wheelchair accessible.
Gentle Park Walks, Stratford Park, Stroud – Every other Friday from the Museum in the Park. Open to anyone who would benefit from a gentle walk. Wheelchair accessible. For more information on times and dates contact stroud@fairshares.org.uk
Dementia Friendly Walks, Nailsworth – monthly from Egypt Mill. For people living with dementia and their carers. For further details contact the Dementia Friendly Nailsworth group
Parkrun
Parkrun is a FREE, weekly 5km timed run. Parkruns are open to everyone and are safe and easy to take part in.
Parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9.00am in the following locations:

Mummy & Me Classes
Mummy & Me classes allow you to exercise and bring your baby/child along too.
The classes aim to help you to feel healthier in your mind and body, bond with your baby/child and find support and friendship.
Little ones can chill or you can lift and stretch with your baby as part of each exercise.
Choose2Move
Choose2Move Classes are light to moderate physical activity classes designed for people who maybe have attended one of our referral classes previously or new members who are looking to increase their physical activity levels.
These classes aim to improve your:
- Strength
- Balance
- Flexibility
- Overall wellbeing by promoting a more active lifestyle
Self Referral
You can self-refer to the following classes:
- Strength and Balance
- Living with and Beyond Cancer
- Mummy and Me
- Choose2Move classes (Maintaining Mobility, Dance, Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi)
