Aerobics

An easy to follow, mixed impact class set to motivating music that works your cardio fitness and is great for weight loss. Don’t worry if you’ve got two left feet – the moves are repeated so you can pick it up in no time.

Body Conditioning

This body conditiong class is a full body workout that uses body weight and equipment to improve your strength, stamina and general fitness levels.

Circuits

Every good studio has a strong circuit-based programme. This mixed impact station-based class targets all areas of the body using a variety of exercises and equipment.

Core Fitness

This class focuses on all areas of the core to create a strong back, improve posture and strengthen the ab muscles.

Forever Fit

A fun, low intensity, low impact session for older adults who want to work their heart, muscles and increase flexibility, all in one easy to follow class.

Indoor Cycling

On yer bike! Calorie killing at it’s best without the stress of any complicated moves. Great music, motivational instructors and a chance to burn up to 450 calories per half hour will complete your journey to calorie burning heaven.

Les Mills Body Balance

BODYBALANCE™ Body Balance is the Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength and leaves you feeling centred and calm. Controlled breathing, concentration and a carefully structured series of stretches, moves and poses to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony and balance.  You can also try Les Mills classes at home with the Les Mills on Demand app.

Les Mills Body Combat

An empowering class inspired by martial arts, set to a mixture of motivating music to get you through a high intensity calorie burning workout. No martial arts experience needed for this body-blasting workout. You can also try Les Mills classes at home with the Les Mills on Demand app.

Les Mills Body Pump

BODYPUMPâ„¢ is the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like Squats, Presses, Lifts and Curls. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weights inspire you to get the results you came for – and fast!  You can also try Les Mills classes at home with the Les Mills on Demand app.

Legs, Bums & Tums

Legs, Bums and Tums! A complete lower body workout for all those problem areas, this workout can incorporate the use of hand weights, steps, bars and bands.

Mega Mix

This session incorporates aerobics, step and conditioning all in one. A great workout for those who are looking to burn lots of calories and tone up at the same time.

Pilates (Mixed Ability)

In this class, you’ll concentrate on lengthening and strengthening the core muscles by focusing on good technique, precision and control of movement to reduce the risk of injury and to enhance injury recovery. A variety of levels makes this class suitable for beginners to experienced Pilates participants.

Stretch & Mobilise

Stretch & Mobility is a class with the simple aim of encouraging people to stretch correctly in a fun and fulfilling way! Flexibility training is often neglected- this can cause tightened muscles, discomfort and a higher risk of injury. It is designed to improve your range of movement, decrease your risk of injury and improve your quality of life.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi consists of soft, relaxed slow movements and is recognised as being good for stress, balance, and general health.

An ancient Chinese internal martial art that uses slow and graceful movements to improve posture, balance, flexibility, general health and relieve aches and pains. Suitable for all levels of fitness.

It is excellent for relieving chronic back, neck and shoulder pain when practiced regularly.

Yoga

Our general yoga class is a fusion of different yoga styles influenced by BKS Iyengar, Vanda Scaravelli, the Bristish Wheel of Yoga and Inner Yoga Trust. The emphasis during physical instruction is on postural alignment, safety, and tailoring each posture to suit the needs of the individual. We also teach breath work (prananyama), which relaxes the nervous system and brings focus and calm to the mind. Each session ends with a short yoga relaxation.

Dursley Fitness Class Descriptions

1980s Aerobics

A really fun way to get fit, combining simple moves with a touch of dance and flare. While a fabulous eighties soundtrack supplies the perfect tunes to get you motivated, it also strengthens and tones, providing a terrific cardio workout.

3STEP

Specially designed by Active Lifestyle’s fitness team, 3STEP combines step aerobics, strength and conditioning training and Pilates-style toning and stretching. This ultimate one-hour workout has everything you need to stretch, tone and burn those calories!

ABC

An ‘all body conditioning’ toning class that gets every muscle group working to shape your body. No equipment is used during this workout.

Aerobics

An easy to follow, mixed impact class set to motivating music that works your cardio fitness and is great for weight loss. Don’t worry if you’ve got two left feet – the moves are repeated so you can pick it up in no time.

Alignment Yoga

This class focuses on postural alignment with subtle motions, rather than fast flowing movements. In this session, you’ll learn how the right body posture can help avoid injury, and discover how breath control can help keep you calm while benefitting the whole body. 

Beginners Fitness

New to exercise and not sure where to start? This is the class to choose – a safe, efficient way to exercise in a supportive group atmosphere. If you’re recovering from injury, have lower back/joint problems or are just new to exercise, then come along and join us.

Cardiac Rehab

Light exercise for people recovering from heart conditions. This class is the start of your recovery and exercise journey, and you’re in safe hands with our fully qualified cardiac fitness professional. Due to the specialist nature of the class, it is not covered by other members of the fitness team

Choose to Move

If you are 60+ and looking to start your exercise journey, then this class is a great one to start with. Turn back the clock with this fun and friendly class that will improve your balance and confidence, mobility and flexibility, strength and independence. Chairs are provided and are part of the workout if you need them.

Circuits

Every good studio has a strong circuit-based programme. This mixed impact station-based class targets all areas of the body using a variety of exercises and equipment.

Core Blimey

This core blast will work your abdominals and strengthen your lower back. Classes are short and ideal for anyone with a busy schedule or for those who want to sandwich their workout with other classes or the gym.

Fit Ball

The same concept as Pulse Barre, and as challenging! The exercises are progressed quicker and the degree of difficulty is increased. Easier alternatives are given so that you can work at your own level.

Flexi Bar

This conditioning class combines whole body conditioning exercises and vibration training to work the deep muscles of your core, while toning your arms, and was originally developed in Germany as a physiotherapy tool.

Glutes, Arms and Abs

This class will tackle all of your wobbly bits in a 30-minute workout that fits into any busy schedule.

Hatha Yoga

A relaxing and gentle class that helps align body and mind. Through mindful movement and breath awareness we release tension, improve suppleness and restore balance. Each class includes energising and calming yoga postures, at first lying on the mat and then standing. All abilities are welcome. You can bring a blanket for the guided relaxation at the end of the class.

HiLo

This great cardiovascular class is high intensity, but low impact – ideal for those with joint issues who want a fantastic calorie-burner without the pain! 

Indoor Bootcamp

Push it to the limit! This interval training class uses drills, where you will be pushing and pulling weights, battle ropes, sand bags and more in order to get the most from your workout.

Indoor Cycling

An indoor cycling experience for all levels and abilities in an inspiring group atmosphere.

Indoor Cycling Express

Indoor cycling session for when you want a quick and fun workout.

Indoor Cycling Rave

A fun and exciting full body indoor cycling session. Incorporating a more choreographed workout to the beat of the music.

Introduction to Water Fitness

Suitable for anyone who has been referred to the centre by their physiotherapist or doctor, this 30-minute water class is ideal for those looking to attend an aqua class that provides functional movement. It’s ideal for those who require lower impact activities or are new to fitness.

Kettle Bell

A weight-based class that combines cardiovascular ballistic movements with strength. This class is taught in a pure strength formation, as part of a circuit or a mix of both. The variety is endless, and you’ll feel the difference after each class.

Living With and Beyond Cancer

A safe way to return exercise after treatment, this class will help aid your recovery. This is a specialist class and is delivered by a cancer fitness professional. If you don’t want to come on your own, bring a friend or carer and they can join in with you.

Move to the Movies

A fun and uplifting class for all you film fans! This choreographed class is set to soundtracks from some of the most beloved films of all time and is suitable for all abilities.

NIA Dance

Nia dance is more than just a workout. It is a holistic fitness practice addressing each aspect of your life – body, mid and soul. Combining dance, martial arts and mindfulness, Nia conditions and strengthens your body while transforming your mind.

Pilates (Mixed Ability)

In this class, you’ll concentrate on lengthening and strengthening the core muscles by focusing on good technique, precision and control of movement to reduce the risk of injury and to enhance injury recovery. Piloxing

This fusion class combines dance, Pilates and boxing, providing high energy intervals and optional barefoot training to burn calories, increase stamina and improve balance.

PiYo

A fusion of Pilates, yoga and strength training. This is not a soft option – you’ll move from standing to floor and back again within a sequence of moves. This class burns calories, tones muscles, improves balance and gives you strength.

Pulse Barre

This class will help you focus on postural strength and alignments. Using the principles of dance and Pilates, this class focuses on core strength, lower body, and flexibility. Ballet barres are used to support you throughout the class.

Pump Circuits

This station-based class incorporates barbells to help you tone and strengthen, giving you a full-body workout. This can be suitable for beginners as you can work with the barbell only.

Range of Motion Yoga

For those who have limitations in Range of Motion, which can be caused by muscle weakness, muscle tightness, arthritis, inflammation and swelling from acute injuries, yoga can be used as a therapeutic modality for ROM gain. 

Respiratory Rehab

A safe way to get back to exercise. To attend this session, you must be referred by the respiratory team. Due to the specialist nature of the class, it is not covered by other members of the fitness team.

Standing Pilates

Based upon the key principles of Pilates this session includes simple balancing exercises and strengthening of the major muscle groups without the requirement of getting on and off  the mat.  Breath work, stretching, and mobility are key components in this class.

Street and Commercial Dance

Commercial street dance is a high-energy dance style that combines hip hop and street dance with other styles like jazz, locking, popping, and breakdancing. It’s often seen in music videos, TV shows, and commercials, and is characterized by sharp, sassy movements.

Strength Circuits

Want more strength in your circuit class? This is the ultimate simultaneous challenge of muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness. This circuit class can be brutal and will test your ability to exert maximum muscle effort for short periods of time.

Tai Chi

TRX

Our TRX suspension training uses bodyweight exercises to build core stability and muscular strength. These classes are taught in smaller groups so ideal for both new exercisers and fitness fanatics.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa yoga, also called “flow” because of the smooth way the poses run together, is one of the most popular contemporary styles of yoga. It’s a broad classification that encompasses many different types of yoga, including Ashtanga and power yoga.
